nominated by their peers in the industry. Every year since 1972, a select number
of career packaging professionals have been inducted into the Packaging Hall
of Fame in recognition of significant contributions they made in advancing packaging
technology and engendering a better understanding of packaging's role on society.
"The Packaging Hall of Fame is the highest honor a packaging professional can
attain, and through their leadership and significant contributions to the industry,
the four individuals to be inducted into the Class of 2004 are truly deserving
of the recognition," says Ben Miyares, vice president, industry relations, Packaging
Machinery Manufacturers Institute.
RFID in the Supply Chain Seminar
The Northeast Ohio WERCouncil and the Center for Information Technology
and E-Business (CITE) will co-sponsor a half-day seminar November 19 at
the Paul E. Martin University Center on the campus of the University of
Akron. Time is 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The seminar is a forum for the exchange
of ideas among industry, academe and government professionals on emerging
IT issues facing organizations.
Radio frequency identification (RFID), an emerging technology, enables
the automatic detection and tracking of items through their life cycle.
Recent RFID initiatives by Wal-Mart, Target and the Department of Defense
have some suppliers jumping on the RFID bandwagon. Other companies are
evaluating RFID to improve efficiency and profitability.
The keynote address on the latest developments in RFID standards will
be delivered by Sue Hutchinson, director of product management at EPCglobal.
Tom Andel, chief editor of Material Handling Management,
will moderate a panel discussion, "RFID from the Production Line to the
Bottom Line."
